Through the centre is now an established presence on campus, it hasn't always been this way. Almost 10 years ago, a small group of dynamic, visionary women got together and decided it was time Laurentian had its own women's centre. Laurentian was in fact one of the last universities in Ontario to do so.
It was quite a struggle at first: having to lobby the university for space, circulating petitions to show students support and gain funding, etc. The Centre caused quite a stir, and the student newspapers were full of heated debate as to whether Laurentian needed a women's centre.
The Centre bounced around from one location to another before finally settling in its current location. We are small but busy and bustling with lots of energy and projects. Come check us out and become part of the LU Women's Centre's history!
WOMEN-ONLY SPACE
We reserved the lounge in the back of the centre for the exclusive use of women. Come enjoy the company of other women, have tea or coffee, lunch or just relax and read a book on one of our comfy couches!
Throughout the year, we offer various events designed to raise awareness, empower women, and to have FUN! |
